This home began as a mid-century modern catalog house plan design built in Mt. Laurel, NJ in the 1950's. By the we came to it much of the modern character had been lost, and a few careless additions had eliminated one bedroom and spoiled the raked roof line. At the outset we explored several strategies for remaking the house, including a conventional traditional treatment. In the end the owners resolved to recapture the modern character of the house. Along with adding two bedrooms, a family room, and an expanded bathroom for the master suite we restored the angled roof line and contemporary cladding around the house. The kitchen was reconfigured to expand the dining and living space and to open the house to the new family room.
