Architectural Design and Theory:

Essay on architectural theory and design: This essay was originally written in 1990, and was published in the June 1992 issue of Progressive Architecture Magazine. The essay explores the disconnect between design theory and practice and proposes an approach to make architectural theory relevant to everyday situations. I have lost track of the different edits of this piece, so the version posted here may not be the same one as published in 1992.

The Astronaut Memorial, competition entry, 1987: In 1987 there was a competition held to design a memorial to Astronauts who have died since the start of the space program. This memorial competition was initiated shortly after the shuttle Challenger explosion in 1986 and was to be designed to accommodate future accidents. Greg's father was an aerospace engineer and worked on the lunar lander project at Grumman Aerospace when Greg was a child. Greg grew up surrounded by the space program and took his personal experience into the design competition. We have decided to share this project on the web site now (Feb. 2003) after the tragic re-entry breakup of the shuttle Columbia.
