Modular Stencil
This stencil face is based on a set of french drafting stencils made famous by the pioneer modern architect Le Corbusier. His famous tracing paper sketches were titled and notated with these stencils. They have been used by many architects in the years since, and they have found their way to the computer in several forms, but none we believe as complete or true to the spirit as this version. Le Corbusier's drawings do show some limited instances of lowercase stencils, but we have never seen a set of lowercase characters. Hence the entire lowercase is completely original work inspired by the capitals and other classic text faces. There are also several ornaments included in the character set which were inspired by Le Corbusier, including his trademark heavy black eyeglasses. Design notes: Modular Stencil is a very geometric face with a strong modern feel. In comparison to other popular stencil faces it has a sharp rectangular serif which gives it a formal appearance, more like a stencil version of a text face. In fact it bears a strong resemblance to Bodoni, a modern serif text face. |
