Secede
Secede is based on lettering appearing in drawings by the Viennese architect Otto Wagner. Wagner, a prominent architect and pioneer of modernism was a leader in the Viennese Secessionist movement. The typeface reveals it's origins on the drafting board in its pervasive horizontal and vertical strokes, appearing in characters which would ordinarily be curved. The various ornaments have been interpreted from textile and wall covering designs of the era.
Design notes: Secede is a very vertical and dense typeface. The stroke width and spacing of the letters approached a near 50/50 proportion which tended to cause graphic nature of the font to overpower the readability. The letter spacing has been increased to reach a balance between readability and its original graphic character. |
