9618: A renovation to an OB/Gyn Oncology clinic at a major Philadelphia hospital. The existing facility was the result of years of ad-hoc building and adaptation. It had left the entrance to this clinic directly at the end of the patient corridor, compromising privacy. While it was not feasible to completely reorganize the clinic, the thoughtful manipulation of space and experience alleviated the conflict. Now upon entering you are confronted by the reception desk which holds your attention, and the patient corridor is separated by a clearly framed threshold. Changes in material and lighting quality further divide the entrance from the more private corridor allowing them to coexist. |
