9974: This thoughtful addition to a mid-war era house is a classic example of our approach to expanding an existing structure. The house was moderate in size and built with materials and craftsmanship which is now considered expensive. It was built at the time when quasi historic stylistic treatments to the front of houses were becoming common. This house had a "Tudor" style front, while it was less detailed on the other sides. A careful composition of the new addition extended the character of the house down the side elevation giving the house much more presence; similar to an older house that would have a characteristic design on all sides. While the floor plan was straight forward, it links to the existing house at two points which serves to integrate the addition more successfully and gives the house a feeling of greater space.
