November 2004:

This is the view from the building site. The river takes a bend here which closes off the long view - sort of makes it into a big outdoor room. Very nice.

This is the site clearing going on. Hopefully we will have a hole before too long.

May 2005:

It is spring now and the foundations are in, the crawlspace wall almost complete in this photo. What a difference on the site with all the trees now full of leaves.

Looking out over the bay for the kitchen table, you can see the river beyond through the trees. The deck should take you right out to the trees to over look the water.

June 2005:

Conventional stud framing goes up very quickly when the carpenters get in there as you can see. At the side you can see many of the walls are already framed up and leaning on the back wall. I'm guessing they laid these out and framed them up working flat on the floor deck, and then tilted them up off to the side to wait while they got the perimeter walls in place and squared up. The diagonal braces will be there until the roof is on and interior partitions go up and the tops of the walls are properly restrained.

A few days later:

The living room looking towards the kitchen.

The carpenters placing the roof rafters.

The approach side of the house.

The view up the bank to the house.

Late June 2005

The approach to the house site - the roof is now framed and the deck is on. Black roofing felt serves as a temproary roof membrane.

The master bedroom corner of the house. The builder has clad the foundation wall in local stone.

Inside, looking to the back side of the living room and kitchen (which is actually the front wall of the house.

Mid August 05 update

The windows are now in, the porch roof has been framed out, the deck framing is in place, and the house is really starting to look like itself now.

The approach side of the house.

This is looking from the deck outside the master bedrrom back through the kitchen and living room bays.

There you have it! The windows are in and its really shaping up nicely.

Early September:

The metal roof installation has just begun.

Late September - siding is on, interior drywall is done. Paint and interior fixtures and cabinetry is basically what remains.

Here the siding is going on, and apparently its being stained immediately after!

Here is the siding on the deck side of thehouse at the entry door. Looks like knotty pine.

And here is the crew posing with a "surprise visitor"!

Mid October: Work on the interior is far along:

Here is the long wall of cabinets. They have chosen low cabinets for this stretch in the living area, with some tall cabinets near the entry. Finish flooring has yet to go in and I am not sure if white is the color or if this is the primer coat.

Here looking towards the kitchen you can see the tall pantry cabints along the same wall as the living room stretch.

Here looking from the Master Bedroom out towards the living room, all the way through the utility room out the side door! It is almost done now. Look for photos of the finished house next.

November 2005-Interior almost done

Here is the interior nearly complete. There is not much left to do and the owners have moved in during these last steps. The kitchen, above, is complete and in operation.

And here is the living room. The wood stove is in place but not yet connected to the roof penetration for the flue, and of course the furniture is still to come! The wood floor look great though, and the space feels bright and open.

Here is the view out of the window walls of the house, and a glimpse of the high windows that allow the light to penetrate the depth of the house. This is just about done now and its been a year since the first pictures of the site were posted. Projects take time, but worth the wait? You decide for yourself!

Here is the garage that the owners and builder have design/built with their own wits - no help from me - just working from the house plans to make a garage structure sympathetic to the house. I think it looks great!

And here we are looking back to the house from the side of the garage. We can understand the relationship of the two structures to the slope of the site here.

Late December 2005

This will be the last entry for the Arkansas Plat House construction page. The construction work at the house is complete and the owners are occupying it now. If we have fresh photos in the spring we will post a new page of the completed house. We are very grateful to the owners for sharing their construction process and we know it has been a great help to many of you following the progress. So let's see the house!

Here is it, on the wooded bank overlooking the stream.

The stone veneered foundation wall is still visible below the deck.

On the deck.

In the living room.

Looking out to the view from the living room. The bay window looks like a great place to sit.

Looking out from the kitchen. The table bay also looks great. You can see how the dropped center section of the deck has helped increase their view.

And here is the bunk room, set up for a home office.

And bunk beds too! With the high ceiling the room won't be cramped, even with four bunks. Looks like there is room for another on top of these too?

The master bedroom on the other side of the house.

And finally, the utility/mudroom.

Overview of the deck.

From the deck looking back to the garage, that is the door to the utility/mudroom at the left.

The garage and entry side of the house.

The full view of the approach side of the house.

A few more shots of the living room with new furniture.

The view from the kitchen into the living room.

Dusk at the Arkansas Plat House!

There it is! Thank you for following this project with us.

The Plat House

Construction Images

These images are from the first 0242 Plat House to be built in 2005 in Arkansas. The Owners will be using it for their secondary residence for approximately half of each year. It is located on a beautiful wooded site overlooking a small river. The house is sited to take advantage of the river view and the decks should be oriented towards this side of the site. My sincerest thanks to our customers who share images of their homes.
