Number: 0367 The Porch House |
This is an advance preview of the design under development. We have posted these sketches in response to a specific inquiry regarding this project. These are the earliest sketches of the design and capture its concept in the most rudementry form. Enjoy this peak behind the scenes! The Porch House is a two bedroom "cabin" with an open living/dining/kitchen area. The living area is under the raised angled portion of the roof and will feature a large window on the tall end wall intended to be oriented towards a view. The bedrooms on the other side consist of a Master Bedroom and a "bunk" room for up to 4 children or guests. The bedrooms will share a single large full bath - this is not a luxury ride! The house is intended to be a full year cabin with winterized areas on the upper level, and a living porch of equal area on the ground level, hence the name Porch House. This living porch will include a summer kitchen and sleeping areas as well. So during the summer months the number of people that can be accommodated can be quite large. I am thinking that there would be large panels that would pivot upwards to create shade around the house, and when closed provide security for when the house is shut and the owners away. Sliding panels are also possible, especially if it is in a wooded setting where shade is not a concern. I always imagined the house in a pine forest on the edge of a lake. Facts: Two story wood framed dwelling with a pier foundation, and combination of sloped corrugated metal roofing and low slope membrane roofing. Ground level space is a screened living area include a summer kitchen, livng and dining spaces, and semi private sleeping porches. Second floor spaces include two bedrooms, one full bathroom, and the a combination living, dining, and kitchen space.
